ASTRAGALUS

Astragalus is an adaptogen that has actions in nearly of the body systems. Studies conducted at the University of Houston have shown that astragalus can improve immune function in cancer patients by increasing T-cell counts, and was also shown to fight cancer cells while switching on the anti-tumor activity of interleukin-2.
---Craig Stellpflug, Astragalus, the Unsung Cancer Fighter, in the e-magazine, Natural News

Botanical Name: Astragalus membranaceus

Astragalus comes to us from Chinese Medicine, and is rapidly gaining popularity in the United States. It is a powerful adaptogen that reduces the effects of stress while supporting normal body functions. Astragalus supports adrenal function, a key organ system for stress management, and improves digestion and metabolism, combats fatigue and increases stamina. It is also an aphrodisiac, improving sexual energy and function.
Astragulus also helps the heart develop a more regular rhythm and lowers blood pressure (hypotensive) and works to balance bodily fluids (diuretic).

Add carob or cocoa powder last to thicken the mixture to your liking. Roll into teaspoon-size balls; eat two per day. Store in fridge and eat within a week.
Contraindications, if any: Because astragalus is such a powerful immune booster, it may interact with medications that suppress the immune system, such as the drug cyclophosphamide taken by cancer patients and similar drugs taken by organ transplant recipients. If you have an immune deficiency or autoimmune condition, use caution. Consult a qualified herbalist or natural health practitioner if taking these medications.
