CHASTE TREE BERRY OR VITEX

From the writings of three of the best-known herbalists and healers of 400 B.C. to 100 A.D., we know that chaste tree was highly revered especially for imbalances of the female reproductive tract . Hippocrates, esteemed as the 'father of medicine,' was really the first naturopathic doctor. He used herbs, the gentle medicines, to help restore health many diseases. Vitex was one of his favorite herbs.

Vitex is an all-around tonic for the reproductive organs, and so is one of the herbs that might be considered a woman's best friend. It is an emmenagogue, restoring balance in the menstrual cycle, regulating the intensity of the cycle, relieving cramping, and reducing heavy blood flow, all of which are associated with dysmenorrhea. It is particularly helpful with pre-menstrual syndrome(PMS), and in conjunction with flax oil, can do wonders for women during menopause. Research findings reported in various German scientific journals has shown that chaste tree berry's ability to regulate hormones makes it a very effective treatment for acne.  Vitex takes time to work, and should be taken for at least a month. Many researchers recommend a minimum 4-month course, up to a 6 or even 8-month course.
